617 hand spring in ireland
hi all
im just wondering can anyone help me. im liveing in ireland and i have a s&w 22a and the 617. both really nice guns. however in ireland parts are next impossible to get. and the importers of s&w wont deal with me. ive tryed 2 gun dealers and they have gotting me the same spring that is wrong. so i contacted a guy in czech rep and he told me their is 2 different springs for this gun. so the serial number will get me the right spring. yet again its the wrong spring.
so my question is can someone supply the right spring for this gun. the spring i was sent is more or less a straight bar lopped in the middle. i was told by my gun dealer it has 3 legs and one of them has a dog leg on the bottom. it also connects into the trigger?
i havent shot this gun in almost a year due to this spring broke. so if anyone at all can help me out i would be very grateful
many thanks

Do you have a forged or MIM trigger? The forged trigger has a pin thru the loop in the spring so the spring is trapped. The MIM trigger is the one with the spring that drops into a recess in the trigger and tries to escape when you install the hand.

We know it is a 617, "BUT" there should be a number after the 617, like 617-1 or 617-2. What are the numbers on yours 121?

Dia guit! Lots of Irish here in Southern California.
Check out post no. 8 in the FAQs:
FAQ's
Depending on whether you have a forged or MIM trigger, one of those should work for you. I think the three-legged feature you mentioned must have been an attempt to characterize how the spring fits into the trigger and against the hand pin.

Yes, the forged trigger has 3 pins thru the trigger around the trigger pivot.
Post #7 in the FAQ's shows a 500 with an MIM trigger and a 686 (without the hammer block) with a forged trigger. You can see the heads of the 3 pins thru the trigger around it's pivot in the 686.

i didnt see the spring as i dropped it to my gun dealer. he just said it was 3 legged and it did connect into the trigger.
but he had no luck getting me the spring so i sent it to another guy to see if he could get the string. i dont have the gun so i cant tell u if it has other numbers.
so is it that one spring doesent connect to the trigger and one does? because i need the one that connects to the trigger.
im hopeing if their is any firearms dealers here reading this that they can get me the spring and post it to me. of cource im willing to pay for it and more for their throubles.
i just want to be able to shoot it again
also my trigger dont have three pins in it but a slot cut in the trigger itself.
also if anyone can post a picture of the spring needed it mite help me when im searching the net for it.

In this picture is the trigger that you are calling 3 points? And this isn't what you have correct?

It sounds like you have the MIM trigger, since you have a pocket for the short end of the spring to go into.
I am no expert on hand springs -- I usually try not to take hands off the trigger when I pull a gun's innards out -- but it is at least conceivable that the same spring will work in either trigger. In the MIM trigger, put the short end of the spring down in the pocket with the spring coil oriented to the interior of the trigger, then force the long end against the coil tension down into the hammer body. Slide it past the small pin on the hand, then push the hand all the way in. I think that will trap your spring with the necessary tension to hold it in proper position when installed.
I ask to be corrected if in fact the older spring design cannot be used in a MIM trigger.

Don't want to rain on anyones parade (sorry jlyons121) but be careful if you are tempted to send any gun parts overseas to help someone out. You may run afoul of ITAR regulations. I'm pretty sure you need to have a license to ship almost any gun parts overseas.

If you go to the Wolf gun springs web site you will see that they always ask if you will be re-expporting the springs you are purchasing. If you are they will prepare the proper paperwork for export and they have a license to do so. Also google ITAR.
