Default s&w 41 MAGS DROPPING

First time here - great info for an old guy getting started.
I just purchased a used S&W 41 and shot about 400 rounds - then magazines just would not lock in. I have 5 mags and none of them would lock in. I plan on looking at it tomorrow evening and just wanted some pointers. Any pointers>

Will assume you pushed them in firmly? Might pull bbl and slide and grips and try empty mags and partly filled to see if they lock in.

If still not locking, may need to take a few turns on the mag catch nut (left side). Will need to depress the mag catch plunger before trying to turn.As you press and release the plunger, observe the mag catch in the mag well.

Thanks for the suggestion Tom --- I will have time tonight to check it out. I just did not want to start on the project totally blind. And to answer your question - Yes I did press in firmly with empty mags as well as full mags. I thought I had broked something. Thanks

Just finished with the repair. Tom's direction hit it right on the money. I started with the grip removal and with that - the problem was obvious. Apparently "someone" in the effort to have a clean gun - passed a cotton cloth through the magazine chamber. In doing so - did not ensure the cotton fibers were removed. On the right side of the 41 - part of the mag release - there were fibers jammed in the wedge -that was supposed to hold the mag in place - the wedge just could not mate with the mag. I cleaned them out and put a drop of oil on it and - presto!!! reassembled and everything seems to work fine. Special thanks for your direction Tom
