Question To Float or Not to Float on 629-1

Bought a new smooth cylinder dropped it in, everything seems fine w/ one exception, the hammer does not go back to SA cock notch with the cylinder installed, just shy a small amount.

I think the revolver has a regular hand, was told the cylinder was for a floating hand, is that the issue or is something else the issue & what problems are involved installing the floating hand?

TIA gents

EDIT: Thanks gents sounds like a job for S&W or Pinnacle, I would be afraid to tackle that job.

Try swapping the extractor, it may help it out.

Remember, cylinders are not drop in parts, everything must be fit on a revolver.

The extractor on the new cylinder hasn't been fitted. It needs some metal removed to properly time. Not a job for the amateur.

The extractor ratchets need to be fitted. Cylinder endshake needs to be checked too. If the new cylinder is the same style (new style, old style) use the old extracor with the new cylinder. If you can't use the old extractor you'll need to have the new extractor ratchets fitted. Usually the un-fitted ratchets on a new extractor won't allow the trigger to pull thru (or the hammer to cock) SA or DA.
