Default Gonna try to machine for full moon-clips

So anyway I have an idea that I want to try to machine my J-frame to accept moon-clips. In order to do that I need to be able to captivate the ejector star during the turning process.

Does anyone know the thread on the ejector rod? I can machine a bolt to hold it tight into the cylinder but I'm not sure about the thread.

Also interested to know if anyone else has tried this?

Thanks!

Jon

Easy way to do it is to use a bit depth stop on the rod to hold it.

Thanks Bullseye Smith, I was thinking the same thing. I think that would work pretty well.

I chucked my assembled cylinder up and took light passes (.010), worked fine, this was with a cylinder I bought just for this conversion, I fit it to my 640 and cut it for moon clips. I since have cut two other revolvers, all three had old style ejectors with no issues... Set your speed correctly and take it slow..

You do realize you also need a mill to cut the rim relief in the ejector.... (unless you 4 jaw it and center on each chamber individually)

Well I machined two J-frames this evening. Everything came out great, I like the moon clips too. I ended up just doing it on a Bridgeport with a rotary table.
