Default 27-2 Mainspring (Lighter D/A Trigger Pull)

Anyone know where to find a lighter Main Spring for a 27-2 ?
Trying to get a lighter trigger pull etc, in D/A Mode ... have already trimmed a coil off the Rebound Spring and done some polishing but think it could still be a lot sweeter with a slightly lighter Main Spring.

My 25-5 is a much nicer action and I'm trying to get the 27-2 to feel like that.

Wonder if the 25-5 Mainspring would work, perfectly, in my 27-2 and not cause any FTF's from light strikes ?

Clearly, I am no shadetree gunsmith ,,,, truth is, a pal of mine is doing this work for me with me looking over his shoulder as an observer.

Rotsa ruck! I shoot revolvers in competion, and you are entering the world of only using Federal primers, adjusting the strain screw length to get it just right, light lubricants, and careful cleaning, plus those days it just won't behave.

For double action, things that you could do yourself are to replace the rebound spring from the standard 18lb spring to a 16, 15, or 14 lb spring. Polishing the rebound slide where on the sides that ride in the frame also helps. Also, check for both hammer and trigger drag.

Beyond that, to smooth and lighten the action, I recommend a competent gunsmith or a trip to S&W's Performance Center.

Have you tried pulling a J frame in comparison to a N frame?
A different world. I have a M 28 and the DA is so much lighter than my M 37 J frame. I love to shoot the M 28, Super accurate.Great Shooter and Home protection.M 37 is for Personal Protection. Just my 2 cents.

Brownells carries the Wolff reduced power spring set and for a really light trigger pull they also carry the Jerry Miculek reduced power competition spring set. Either will work but as another member posted above you will need to switch to Federal primers to insure ignition with lighter hammer drop. I would also advise you to obtain a copy of Jerry Miculek's "Trigger Job" DVD which you will find indispensable in understanding and doing a trigger job including changing out the main(hammer) spring and the rebound slide spring. You can get a copy on eBay or Amazon.

Default Smith mainspring

for what it is worth, I put one of the Brownells/Wolffs reduced power main springs in most every Smith I shoot, I have never had any issues whatsoever with light strikes, from that change only.
When I have bought a new Smith on internet and trigger is really light, I usually find that someone has loosened the strain screw, I have played with that myself and have found that will get you light strikes very quickly.
YMMV

Chris
