Question Barrel Install (locking bolt issue)

Had a 629-1 sent to a reputable smith to have a new 45acp barrel fitted "NEVER AGAIN"

It arrived & look great, was getting ready to sight it in before taking it to an IDPA match and noticed it rattles

A quick check and I see the locking bolt in the barrel is not locking the ejector rod tight allowing the yoke to move off the frame causing the rattle.

Does this part require fitting? I tried 3 different ejector rods, 1 was a new rod and 2 different locking bolts on the barrel - still not properly locked up tight.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

You can have a yoke ball-lock installed.

You can call S&W and order a new extractor rod and center pin for a 25 and hope they are long enough. Explaining to them the problem may help in getting a longer set.

You can take it back to the "reputable gunsmith" (Or one that does know what he is doing!) and have him set the barrel back 1-2 turns, whatever it takes, and re-fit the extractor rod and center pin.

Thanks Alk8944 greatly appreciate the info, NEW 625 extractor rod did not help.

S&W does not do cal changes, the pistol was sent to them first, as they would of been the only ones to do the work & I am sure this would not have happened.

I was not pleased with how long it took, nor the inflated bill, however I am probably going to have to send the pistol off to someone else to have the job done properly, unless I can get S&W to repair it.

Going to call the "reputable smith" and see how best this can be resolved w/o sending the pistol back to him.

EDIT - you tossed yet another thought up, is the extractor itself too short - it was a new cylinder from S&W - will have to confirm length before tossing mud.

EDIT - extractors all appear to be same length as well as the ejector rods
