Default Help Needed-- S&W Revolver Grip Pin Question

I recently bought an older pair of Hogue wooden revolver grips. This model requires that the grip frame pin be drifted out prior to installing the grip. My question is-- do you drift the pin from left to right or right to left ? ( looking at the back of the revolver ) Or does it matter? I've given the pin a gentle tap with a hammer, it doesn't want to budge. Many thanks.

I've always installed the pin (reversing a Hogue conversion) from left to right, so try removing it right to left but I suspect it will come out either way. Try soaking the area with a little lubricant, it may free it up.

RFO,
I've removed them in both directions and it doesn't seem to matter, but what does matter is that you don't roll the edge on the pin over, I would use a penetrant on it and start with something softer than the pin (hard plastic or a hardwood).

Thanks fellows. I'll put a few drops of Break Free on the area, let it soak a bit, and then use a proper sized drift punch.

Rick - a little penetrating oil is good. The pin can be removed from either side - it does not matter.
I use the edge of my work bench and I push the pin until it is flush with either side of the grip frame. Then I use the largest punch possible and knock the pin out the rest of the way.
