4516 hammer replacement
Hi
I currently have both a S&W 4566 and a 5906 that I really enjoy shooting. I have been looking for a 4513 or 4516 to compliment them. My question is this: can the hammer on the 4513/4516 be replaced with one from the 4566 (or 4563/4506)? I have read on the forum here that it can be done with the 9mm models, but was wondering if it can also be done with the 45 models. My wife just likes to shoot single-action at the range and the gun would be easier for her to thumb cock, since she has such small hands.
Thanks for the info. Great forum!

Gregrn14,
Since no else has posted, and I believe a timely reply should be, here is my take:
I've looked at my parts list, and from the different models, it shows MIM parts, etc. There is different part #'s for the different models of 45 cal. Maybe just the difference between MIM and forged parts. This is what I don't know, and could be interchangable.
So, I would call S&W parts dept. and ask them. i.e. if i were in your shoes, this is what I'd do.
Hope this helps

Hi Chris,
I saw different numbers too, but was not sure if they could interchange. So I will have to call the S&W parts department. Thanks again!

Yes a TDA hammer from a 4506 or 4566 series can be used in a 4516 but you need to use the shorter stirrup, mainspring and mainspring plunger from your 4516 hammer.
