Default 5904 cocks without racking slide

Hi! I have a 5904. With the weapon empty, and a magazine inserted, when you pull the trigger it functions normally in the double-action mode. Normal. However if I then keep the trigger held to the rear, without releasing it to go forward, I can then thumb the hammer back for a single action release, without racking the slide. What??? I don't think this is normal!

Does the hammer lock back or go right back forward?

I would think with the trigger full to the rear the sear should be in the release position and should not reset until the trigger is released I do not have a 5904 to compare but I checked another 45 DA/SA that I have you could pull it back but would not lock.

I sure someone with more knowledge than I will jump in but I agree I think their is a problem.

PS you might try a good cleaning maybe some grit or dirt in action

That's what mine does. Lets think about this. If you had a loaded mag and the hammer did fall wouldn't that go full auto.

Got it here in front of me, loaded with snap caps. One in chamber, hammer down (forward). Pull trigger, hammer comes back and releases, falling against rear of slide where it stays. Trigger still held back. Means one round fired.thumb hammer back, release trigger slightly to stage position, pull fully back, hammer falls. Now i'm totally confused!

Can't go full auto, cuz hammer locks back. It's just when I was messing with it, that I noticed you could thumb the hammer back without racking the slide. When you simulate actual firing and recoil, it fires, ejects, and chambers. The hammer stays back????

I have my 6906 here too. I can't see if it does the same cuz it has no hammer spur. I took them both apart, everything appears the same between both of them when dis-assembled, such as hammer cocking releasing etc.

Unless it's Double action only. The first shot is dbl action and the following are single action. You have to release the trigger because it locks back, you're holding back the hammer which the slide would automatically do.

all happened while looking at a Bersa .380. You cannot thumb it's hammer back without releasing the trigger first.

Ok after pulling what was left of my hair on mine if you pull the hammer back by hand it will fall with trigger held to the rear but if you let the slide do what it is supposed to do it locks so I would say you have no problem as long as the hammer locks back from the recoil of the slide

I HAD a good head of hair also ! If I thumb mine back, unlike yours, it stays while trigger is held rearward. BUT... if you simulate firing, its stays locked back. I thot I was just curious, now I think I might be nuts....LOL

So.... I guess that's just the nature of this "beast". I have to go out-of-state to "interview" a person of interest tomorrow, so was checking over equipment. Guess it's good to go
