Yes, many apply a little Flitz or Mothers mag wheel polish to tired blue finishes. Go slow, using only your fingers and cotton cloth, and only polish if you have a specific reason to do so.

Go easy if you polish! Even Flitz, which is an EXCELLENT product that I use myself will do damage if misused. Go lightly and don't get crazy and you will be OK. Works on Nickel too, but gentle is the key word here. And I do use my fingers also.

I only Flitz my blued guns once, then maintain the shine with either Johnson's Paste Wax or the new Flitz Gun & Knife wax. Renaissance Wax is also top notch. None of these waxes contains any abrasives. Stay away from anything meant for automotive finishes.

A blued finish is very very thin. Using any kind of polish that contains an fine abrasive (most all do) will make it even thinnner or wear it completely away. If the finish on your gun really bothers you then have it professionally refinished.

Pro Shot Products makes a Metal Contitioning Cloth that does a very nice job. Safely cleans burn ring off the cylinder front also.

Makes your blue look better than it has in years, and has a cumulative effect each time it's used.

Flitz is good if used sparingly and with very little pressure, try to wipe it off with a good micro fiber cloth. I wouldn't use the Mothers as I believe it to be more abrasive. Mothers works very well on stainless guns, in fact with a micro fiber cloth you can get an almost mirror bright shine

Take your time on blued guns as was mentioned earlier, the finish is indeed very thin in fact I always start polishing on the bottom of the barrel in an inconspicuous area. Done properly the difference on a blued gun can be amazing.

I would avoid flitz. stripped the bluing off my redhawk. 230 bucks to have the finish restored at the ruger factory

A Model 28 is supposed to have a matte finish. If you want a bright finish, consider trading your Model 28 for a Model 27...

Agreed some 28s have a mat (almost parkerized looking) finish others have a smoother blue but nowhere near a bright blue.

I am happy now. The above posts are just what I needed to learn. The search feature did not work for me. It usually doesn't help very much. However if I Google my question the results frequent have the right S&W Forum response high on the list of results.

I have already ordered Renaissance Wax and will hold off using any (a little) until I have wax to apply afterwards.
