I suggest you keep looking in the forum for an answer to your problem.
Others have made sure the mag release closes fully, enough to catch the mag. There was one a year ago who found that the tit that caught the mag was malformed. He filed it to fit. Someone else pried on the mag opening just enough to ensure capture.
You know by now that the mag is supposed to stay until is deliberately released. Sometime soon you may want that empty mag to drop quickly so you can reload. (A self-defense move.)

I encourage you to explore your gun until you are familiar with how it works. You will gain in knowledge and confidence in taking care of small problems and when to recognize something the factory needs to repair/address.

Be careful and God bless.

Obviously the mag catch is not engaging completely; could be that the catch is not fully engaging, the engagement surface is damaged (?!), or the mag catch recess deformed somehow.

The setup is just like that on a Glock, so anyone that works on Glocks can take it apart and look for those things. I had mine apart recently after a mild KB (bad "remanufactured" ammo) and had to file a burr off the mag catch metal surface. It's a dirt simple system and there's only so much that can go wrong with it.

S&W has excellent warranty coverage on Sigmas, so you could simply call them. They will probably fix it at no cost to you and pay shipping both ways.
