Default Model 64 Fixed Sight Modifications - Pictures

This Model 64 shot seven out of eight different loads approximately 3 1/2" high at 25 yards. I used JB Weld to build up the front sight and then filed down the sight a little at a time based on POA/POI testing. I finally achieved 25 yard POA=POI with the sight filed down to the height in the above picture. The final height was approximately 1/2mm higher than I had calculated it would be using the sighting radius, impact adjustment and shooting distance formula.

This is a picture of some welded stainless steel replacing the JB Weld.

This is a picture of the finished sight

What welding method did you use? Do you think the welding affected the heat treatment of the barrel? Looks like the HAZ extended down to the top rounded area of the barrel.

Tyrod,
My sight was TIG welded. The "zone" was much smaller than the one produced in welding a Model 686 sight on my Model 66 in the below picture.

The 66 has handled hundreds of hot loads without any problems and its barrel got way hotter than the M65s. For a rough idea of temperatures generated, note that the red ramp insert on the M66 got a little discolored around the bottom edges.
