Gritty Trigger Return on J Frame
I was dry firing my M&P 340 the other night and noticed the trigger was really gritty feeling on the return. What should I look at to smooth this out. When I bought the gun, I opened it up and gave it my usual job of of a set of ISMI springs and a light hand polish of all internals along with a good lube. I must have missed something in there.

Alot of folks miss the rebound spring stud and the slot in which it travels on the rebound slide. Even a kink or burr on the rebound spring it's self can cause this 'feel'.

Mine was a burr where the hand comes through the window in the frame to turn the cylinder. After the master gunsmith found the problem and fixed it, it is very, very smooth...B

The inside of the rebound slide is also , most often, very rough machined. I do a light honing in there also to ease the spring coils bumping over rough edges

If it is still gritty there has been a spot that was missed when you worked on it. With the side plate off work the action and see if you can spot the culprit. If your ears are better than mine, you might even possibly hear it.

Quite a few points mentioned here I did not touch (hand window, inside rebound block, stud). I will go back and check these spots.

Problem solved. Pin on back side of hand was rubbing slightly on cylinder release bar (probably not correct part terminology). Polished it a bit with fine emery paper and lubed it and grit feel is gone. Also polished up hammer spring strut as it had some burrs on it.
