I recently was looking for a hood for an old Marlin 39a that I have had for 35 years and all I could find was the wide angle one, So I went out to the shop yesterday and got a piece of round stock 5/8" od and drilled a 3/8 hole thru then chucked a 3 flute endmill in the chuck and ran it through, it cut a .475 dia hole next turned the od to .530, cut off faced both ends sq. to .630 OAL, milled the slot in the bottom to .305 width and dressed with a file until it would just start in the slots, heated it dull red with Mapp torch and dropped it in some used oil, PRESTO a sight hood just like I wanted in about an hours time, blue even matches. I have a 39A (Golden?), got it used in about 1972 from Sims Hardware in Sacramento, CA. Sims is gone now, the 39A is still here.

I cannot seem to post pictures from photobucket any more, my 39a is from before 1953 as it does not have micro-groove rifleing, they are great well made rifles. Jeff

Best 22's ever made in my oppinion. Mine is one of the first A's. Mine is a B prefix with the case hardened reciever made in 42 or 43 if i remember correctly. Pop bought it while he was on home time from the Army Air Corps during WWII. My dad had it then gave it to me to learn to shoot with. My son will learn to shoot with it in a few years. Not the most valuable gun in my collection but has more sentimental value to me than any other object I own.

Sight hood for the old 39a's are still available from numerich if you know where to look, hint #1151450.

You should post the # on the Marlin forum there was a fellow that wanted the old style and all he could find was the wide angle, I guess that a lot of them have been lost over the years, the serial # on mine is Kxxxx. Jeff
