Question on WO Rear Sight
Just installed a WO rear on my M27. Noticed that the WO looks painted on, whereas my 686 and 29-2 have actual grooves cut for the paint. Is this the new style? Paint is really thin, hard to see well and the lines are much narrower than on my other WO sights. Is a call to customer service in order? This is an OEM part that I ordered from Brownell.

That is the way they have made them for something like 20 years now. They ARE just painted on. Be careful when cleaning the gun as many solvents will remove the paint by wiping gently.
Since the EPA outlawed the use of white lead there really haven't been any options. Unless it's for a safe queen I wouldn't waste the money buying white outline sight blades.

Some of my guns have the WO rear sights, and some don't. I can't really say that the ones with the WO help me shoot any better, and I don't really see the WO when shooting the revolver anyway.
I equate it to my Browning Superposed shotgun which is a grade two. It has two Ivory beads on the ventilated rib, and when I shoot it I never really see the mid mounted bead anyway. I have other shotguns with only the one bead at the muzzle, and I shoot them just as well.
So; does the WO rear blade truly do much? I think for me ........ it just looks cool more than anything else.

I once did a WO on an 18 with a sharp tooth pick and model paint. Still there after years of service.
