The word is "Sight". Site means a location such as a web-site or building-site.
Depends on what you mean by "size". The rear sight slides, the part with the notch that moves, of K-L-N and X frames are the same width and interchangable. The only difference is height depending on specific model, caliber and barrel length. J-frame sight slides are specific to this size frame and vary in height.
If you mean the entire sight assembly then there are several differences depending on period of production. There are, basically 5 different sight bases or leaves. There is "Old style", with the square end, that can be smooth (Highway Patrolman/M-28 only), checkered (.359 Magnum/M-27 only), standard grooved (nearly everything else), and a long grooved base for the 2 1/2" M-19. Any of these can have the sight leaf screw located in either of 2 different locations. Any are strictly interchangable with any other, even if not "correct" to the specific model except for the screw location difference. Then there are "New style" sights that have the rounded front end to the leaf. These are, supposedly, all alike. New style and Old style are not interchangable. Only New style sight assemblies and leaves are available from S&W.
This is why customer service will ask you several questions if you want to order a "rear sight". It also means the liklihood of getting the
wrong item is fairly high if buying the entire assembly from E-Bay or other on-line source.
