Grip repair
I just bought a Model 586, and 1 of the grips has a small piece of wood missing by the checkering. I know that I can use sawdust from the grip and glue to fix this. What is the best kind of glue to use? I have refinished grips before, but never had wood missing. Thanks, Bob

I've mixed sawdust with devcon 2 ton epoxy when I've worked on old rifle stocks before, looks alright, but that was to also fix cracks in stocks. The epoxy was used because of the strength needed to secure the crack. Not sure about using it to replace a bit that's missing. Depending in the size of it, I would try and find a piece of the same wood, sand/file it down to match what's missing, then mix up sawdust and epoxy to affix it to the grip.

Cpt, what you say is obvious! I may be able to get what I need from the inside of the grip! Then proceed w/ expoxy and sawdust. After the repair, I plan on using Tru Oil for a final finish. Thanks! Bob

Also, try masking off the area around where you're making the repair. Makes cleaning up easier. If you can clamp it piece down, that will make repair stronger as well. Cheers and good luck!
