Classic Mdl 22 of 1917
I've had this revolver for about 3 years and I love it,accurate and it goes with me into the field every time I go.At the range the other day shooting single action mode I decided to push on the cocked hammer(on a empty cylinder of course) and it fell forward with little pressure. I took it to a gunsmith and he checked it out even fitting a new hammer to no avail, same problem. The gunsmith being a 50yr S&W smith said it appears the frame and pin locations were out of specs. What should I do,leave it or send it back to S&W? Double action mode is fine, single is fine but this makes me nervous.

A couple of things. Your description of the gun. Is it a model marked mod 22? If so it's worth a fair amount of money. If it's a 1917 military version, it's still popular but worth less than a post 1950 mod22. You also say classic. S&W has remade the "1917" in the last 10 years calling it the "classic".
As for the mechanical problem, it's called "push off". Likely the sear is worn. Others will chime in but I don't think a new hammer would/will solve the problem. You mention a "gunsmith" changed the hammer. Hopefully you kept the original hammer just in case the gun is something unusual.
Also, I don't think Smith will work on older guns if it is 50+ years old. If it's a more recent "classic" model they will.

If this is one of the "classics" made a few years ago, then call S&W and tell them the problem. It has a lifetime warranty. They will send you a shipping label.

Yea it's one of the new ones, the smith put the original hammer back in,it works fine but I know it's not supposed to be that way. I will contact S&W next week and we"ll see. Thanks for the response.

What you experienced is called "push-off", for obvious reasons. It is fixed by properly stoning the trigger to adjust the engagement angle. Changing the hammer without correcting the trigger wouldn't accomplish anything. If your so-called "gunsmith" doesn't know this he is no S&W 'Smith. This is one of the most frequent and common repairs to S&W revolvers!
Since it is a new gun under the lifetime warrantee call S&W in the morning at 800-331-0852 and arrange to send it back. Everything will be on their dime, even the call.
