Default NY-1 Model 64 Short Stroking?

That's the only way I can think of to describe it.
As I really enjoy DA revolver shooting, I've always wanted a NY-1.
Mine arrived recently. Seemed like trigger reset was 'lazy". A new rebound spring fixed that up.
But, when DA shooting, the gun will occasionally make a light strike. Strain screw tight, etc.
Then, I got to playing with it and it appears that the hammer may not be stroking fully. Like halfway when the DA sear releases. Trigger and hammer LOOK OK.
In this image, I blocked the hammer at the release point.

Would appreciate it if someone with a similar gun could confirm whether or not this is "normal".
If not, I guess a trip to Springfield will be in the offing.
thanks.

That is not normal and I would suspect that the spring for the DA sear may be a bit weak. From the sound of it what may be happening is that the sear is only partially engaging the DA sear on the trigger. Two causes for this that come immediately to mind are a weak sear spring or a chamfer on the DA sear that is a tick too small. Normally a missing or short chamfer on the DA sear will prevent the DA sear from engaging so all that will happen is the cylinder will turn. Since your hammer is engaging the sear I think you may want to look at replacing the sear spring.

Thanks, scooter. Pulled the hammer and compared it to a Model 66 one. Sear on the NY-1 seems to be shorter, maybe filed off. Tried the 66 hammer but it jammed.
So, I'll order up both the spring and a new sear to be on the safe side.

That's probably not what's wrong. The sear just gets the hammer started moving. The actual DA let off is controlled by fixed surfaces on the hammer and trigger, one of which may have been ground down too far when the gun was converted to DAO. Take off the the sideplate and the main and rebound spring and watch the trigger move the hammer back and look at those surfaces. Compare with your 66.

Grinding too much off the hammer making it DAO can make the hammer not come back far enough. Or someone may have gotten creative making a "short stroke action".
