Default Extractor/ratchet peening/burring issues - cause?

The ratchet on my new-to-me 625-3 shows significant peening/burning between the indexing nubs. It seems to work just fine, with excellent timing and lockup, but this peening bothers me. It also has a floating hand, if that is a potential issue. Should I be sufficiently concerned to pursue remedial action or just put up with it? Hopefully the pics will show the issue....Any thoughts?

That looks like it might be left over metal from the manufacturing oprations. it should not hurt anything, just sorta ugly.

If your gun has a hitch in double action, it probably caused by the floating hand. I was doing an action job on the first gun I ever saw with the floating hand. It had a hitch in the action and I couldn't find any reason for it. Replaced the floating hand with a regular hand and the hitch was gone, action was great. I generally find a reason to replace all the floating hands on any gun I buy. However, some guns seem to function fine. If you don't need a perfectly smooth double action and shoot single action mostly. You won't need to replace the hand if it times correctly.

I agree. Those don't look peened so much as being manufacturing burrs. If the cylinder carries up when thumb cocking, don't worry about it.

Thanks, gents. I was hoping that the burrs could have come from milling the ejector for the moon clips. I'll leave them alone!

OK, I'm not above admitting when I'm lost... What is a "floating hand?" I am in the same boat as the others... Looks like "flashing from injection molding.

Here's a picture of a similar example I come across with my first S&W revolver that I just picked up a week ago. It is a 686-6.

The left over metal is on the corner of one of the cogs.

The cylinder does not hang up at all but I wonder if the excess metal may eventually break off taking a chunk of the corner of the cog off with it...? Perhaps not....
