Default Broken firing pin 629-3...where do I get a replacement?

I was searching the Internet for a replacement firing pin for my 629-3 with no luck. Brownell's shows that the firing pin assembly for this model is discontinued, so I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions???

My error, thought I saw one on gunjoker.
Best bet is to put a WTB in the classifieds here.
Good luck!

ETA just found this: http://www.gun-parts.com/firingpins/
look about 1/2 way down on the right side.

I did some more searching last night and found the name of the part, anyway...it's the hammer nose. Sold out in most places...discontinued in others. I don't need the whole trigger assembly, but there is a used part advertised in the classifieds. I prefer not to pay that much, though.

Default hammer nose

You'll need a hammer nose and rivet. Customer Service at S&W should have some. If you cant find these parts, send me a message and I'll send them to you. You may be able to re-use the old rivet but it would be best to have a new one.
Be very careful when removing the broken part as I believe there should be very tiny coil spring behind the nose at the top. It fits in a small slot in the hammer nose and keeps the nose tilted forward. I may be mistaken but I believe all of the magnum series guns have this "spring-loaded" nose.
The new one is not difficult to put in. Many of the members here can explain the procedure in detail.

Good job, Taroman!
I'm thinking I might order a couple of spares, seems like cheap insurance.

Called Smith & Wesson customer service this morning...they don't make the part anymore. Numrich is out of stock and won't allow you to order one until they have more...they told me to check back in 30 days.

Try Jack First-

Jack First Gunshop - First in Gun Parts - Rapid City, South Dakota

They have the ability to reproduce parts that are no longer manufactured. I was looking for an ejector rod for a Colt Anaconda a couple months ago and nobody had one; finally called Jack First and they had a couple that were "brand new" (they had an original and copied it). I have to say, their reproduction is identical to the originals I have, there is no way you can tell Colt didn't build it. It was about $40 (instead of the $10-15 you'd expect to pay for a used part) but I wasn't complaining since I was so happy I actually found one.

Impressive customer service...no electronic prompts, and same day shipping. I bookmarked the site for future reference. Hard to find service like that these days.

Ok...so I got the parts in the mail today. I removed the rivet and broken hammer nose and installed the new parts. The new rivet slides easily back and forth with slight pressure (the spring provides the only tension on the rivet). Do I need to have someone press the rivet to expand it, or is there a way to do this at home?

When I replaced mine, I just ground the tip of a pin punch into the proper shape to flare the end of the hollow rivet.

That would be a viable solution.

I might also consider using two small steel ball bearings and setting the rivet in a vise. It's definitely something that could done in a home work shop.

Great job!

While it's better to replace the rivet with a new one if and when available, the old ones can be reused if carefully removed. I have started re-using them when they come out intact & in good shape because of the problem getting new ones. I have gotten very careful about using up any NOS parts I currently have because I know they are getting both scarce & expensive these days.
