Default 10-6 receiving a barrel transplant?

I have a 10-6 4" heavy barrel on lay-away at the LGS and I want to make it a little more carry friendly. I found a 3" barrel at Midwayusa.com for a 10-8. I am curious to know, can I put this barrel on my Smith? I know that they are different variants, but would it work?

Sure it will work. But probably cheaper to sell the 4 in gun and buy a 3 in gun. They don't just screw off and screw on. They must be fitted. Also takes special tools to keep from warping the frame and to keep from scratching up the barrel. Also that extra inch of barrel doesn't make that much difference while carrying.

I had a local 'smith replace a 4" with a 3" on a Model 64. $85 for the work. I'm very happy with the result.
