Cleaning Nickel Guns
I used Hoppes for years on everything- blued, nickel, stainless and now I'm told that I shouldn't use it on nickel. What do you guys recommend for cleaning and lubricating nickel finished guns? I do apologize if this question has already been asked and I missed it.

Ammonia compounds are the culprit......BreakFree would be a good "ammonia-free" choice.

On my nickel guns, I use Prolix. Safe for use on nickel finishes and cleans the finish nicely. I use Flitz,(there are other options, Mothers Mag Polish, Blue Magic, etc), to polish the nickel, then Renaissance Wax, again there are other options, to protect the finish.

Cleaning Nickel Firearms
My LGS also advised against using Hoppe's with ammonia. However, Hoppe's does have an "ammonia free" Elite product line which includes Copper Terminator, Gun Oil, and Gun Cleaner. I use all of them with no damage to my nickel plated revolvers. Just as JCS&W mentioned, Mother's Mag Polish is outstanding and provides excellent results. Although I have Flitz, it just doesn't provide the same results for me, or come even close.I called S&W Customer Service and they also mentioned the Hoppe's Elite product line as being one of the possible choices.

I use Rig #2 Oil or Remoil and all has been well for 35+ years. I am sure there are lots of great products out there but these two have worked so well I have no reason to stray.
