So far the best quality repair service I have used .......... is me.
Why, not saying I am the best GS in the world, but I will sit there and tweak things 'till I get them just the way I want them, not just somewhere within spec's. I don't have to punch the clock or worry that time is money and I am spending too much time fitting a particular part. It's nice to be retired.

If you have no desire to work on your own guns or are unable or unwilling to do so, I would recommend S&W as the next best thing. NOT that they haven't made mistakes, botched guns up or lost things, but they are reputable, have the ability to replace things and make a job-gone-bad - right again. They DO answer their phones and will complete the repair or re-finish in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable amount of money. I have dealt with other Company's that just won't return a phone call or email (Ford's for one) and I will NEVER deal with them again. I don't give a Rat's butt how great their bluing is............. I will not pay to be treated like a second class customer!

Another Company that I would recommend as far as long guns are concerned is Mid West Gunworks. I have used them 3 times to re-blue a Browning, a Marlin and a Winchester. All 3 times they were reasonably priced, had a reasonable turn-around time, and did a terrific job! Don't know if they work on hand guns or not.

Default best revolver repair service

I would recommend PISCO Gunsmithing Bob Dunlap/Ken Brooks - Gunsmithing at 1455B N Hemlock Street Coquillel Or. 97423 (541) 396-5558. They are a warranty repair shop for Smith & Wesson as well as some of the other Manufacturers. Also, they are instructors for the American Gunsmithing Institute and Gun Club of America. Bob has taught for many years and is highly noted for suggestions to new firearms introduced by the manufacturers that may have some flaws or modifications to be corrected. I know they are about four to six weeks wait for repairs on customer's firearms. They guarantee their work and are highly worth the wait.

I send a couple of revolvers to S&W for some adjustments/minor repairs.

When I called and asked about them , they said that they went to Performance Center (???)

Do they send all their guns at PC?

I have used Old Western Gunsmith in NC with excellent results. In fact it was S&W referred me to them.

Would you mind telling me where they are located? I went through two pages of a search without finding them.

Thanks for your help.

I believe this is who he's talking about;

index

S&W refers guns for which they no longer have parts (forged hammer/trigger, etc) to Old West.

They're probably going to come back with a jeweled hammer/trigger, ported barrel, and a picatinny rail. Isn't that what you wanted?

My guess is that the Performance Center is where all the gunsmiths operate and they are better suited for disassembly and repair; I wouldn't be concerned at all.

Yes, Old West Gunsmith is correct. It had been a while since I had used them and gotten mixed up.

Sorry.

How about Jim Stroh at Alpha Precision in Atlanta. I think he is excellent for the kind of jobs that S&W won't do, like set barrels back to narrow the barrel cylinder gap etc. He also rebores barrels and does a lot of high powered custom work that others just can't do.

Jim customized two 1911s for me several years ago, and he did excellent work, even though he seems to be better known as a revolver smith. I would certainly recommend his work.

Joe at MOJO Custom Guns/Brush Creek Guns does an excellent job for your revolvers. He built a custom PPC revolver that is super awesome. I sent him my 686 and will be getting it back Wednesday having a trigger job done. His trigger and action work is top notch. He works on about any gun, but I can testify about his S&W work.

Just wanted to add this:

I have recently sent 3 guns back to the Colt Factory for re-bluing, and case coloring. Believe it or not the work coming out of Colt these days is OUTSTANDING! When I brought a re-finished matched pair of SAA Revolvers over to Dan Chesiak to fit them with Genuine Ivories, he thought the work was done by Doug Turnbull. When I told him Colt did it he could hardly believe it. Actually, the word is getting around and I understand they are now backed up by about 9 months - but IMHO worth the wait. Their prices are VERY VERY reasonable! To completely strip a 4 3/4 " SAA, re-blue in Colt Royal Blue and re-case color (including all new springs & screws) was $275.00 The job was FLAWLESS! Just saying..........

FWIW that's where my s prefix 28-2 went for 'smithing and reblue. Sounded like that's where the work happens.

Denny @ Sand Burr Gun Ranch is my gunsmith. He only does S&W revolvers and is very good. His deluxe action is "the best". He has performed his magic on three of my revolvers and I'm completely satisfied. Visit his website sandburrgunranch.com

I just had Andy Horvath at Diagonal Road Gun Shop fit a cylinder on an N frame Smith. He shortened the cylinder, chamfered the front of the cylinder and reblued the cylinder to match the gun. Workmanship is excellent!!! The labor charge was very reasonable and turn around time was maybe 6 weeks. He is a very pleasant gentleman to deal with. He will get more of my business in the future.Gary
