Default Forged parts into MIM guns

Is it possible to install forged hammer and trigger into a (prelock) MIM equipped Model 586 that has the frame mounted firing pin. Don't think S&W made forged parts for these.

Installing a forged trigger is a qualified yes. Usually they will drop in with minor or no fitting, some won't. There's more dimensional variation in the forged parts than the MIM parts.

Hammer is a no. As far as I know there aren't any S&W forged hammers for MIM (fmfp) K/L frames.

Just a thought... would a forged hammer for a rimfire J or K frame work in place of a MIM one?

If all forged hammers use pinned sears you'll need to spend time to cut (file) a new DA sear if its a bare hammer. It takes about 20 minutes give or take, but it's far from plug and play like mim which takes literally 2 minutes to stone the sear real quick and chamfer the leading edge.

Default To each his own,

but I can see no reason to change out MIM parts. I have seen just one fail, and it was a slide stop on a Kimber I think. I have seen steel slide stops fail too.

If a person is so afraid of MIM, find a gun that does not have them.

Just the opinion of a very old fart.

Most of my problem with MIM parts is that they fall out of the hammer and trigger, not being pinned in like the forged parts. Now that I am getting the hang of putting them back together, its less of a problem. After all, they have only been putting them in for about a dozen years!! I still don't like the lock, though!!
