Default Rebarrel Model 66

I have a Model 66-1 I bought over 30 years ago. It's a 4" square butt. I called S&W to see if I could get it rebarreled with a 2.75 or 3" barrel. They said sure, if i can get a barrel - they don't have them any more. Any suggestions as to where I can get a Model 66 short barrel? Also, is it possible to reshape the square butt into a round butt?

You would be better off just buying a 2.5" 66 (or a 3" if you can find it and want to buck up for it). 2.5" generally aren't as desirable as 3" or 4", and by the time you buy parts and labor for a barrel swap and grip frame reshape, you'd be close to the cost of a new gun. I highly doubt you'd find a 3" 66 barrel loose anymore. You might find a 2.5", but keep in mind you'll also have to buy a new/shorter ejector rod too. Finding a competent gunsmith to swap a barrel anymore can be a challenge too. S&W can't even get them installed right on new guns from the factory!! I had to send back a brand new 63 for a canted barrel, and it came back better but still not perfect.
