Trigger & hammer sticking after swap
Hi All, wondering if somebody with a little more experience than I have can weigh in here. I have one of the Mod 64 DAO revolvers that J&G sold off a few years back. I just picked up a few replacement K frame hammers so figured i'd try a hammer swap. Everything seems to have gone OK but when I pull the trigger and drop the hammer both get stuck and must be "helped" back to rest. ( THe hammer sticks forward and the trigger to the rear.). No other springs have been changed. I've tried both new /replacement spurred triggers I have with the same results. Haven't tried the old DAO trigger back in yet though.
Ideas on how to trouble shoot/where to look? I can post pics/vids if needed.

I recently put a different hammer in my M65, and had to swap the sear from the original hammer to get the new hammer to work. Being a DAO gun orignally, yours may not have the right sear to be swapped. My knowledge is only as a self trained tinkerer, perhaps someone with more expertise will weigh in, but I'm pretty sure you will need some professional assistance in fitting your parts.

Thanks, never thought of that. I'm actually suspecting the sear. The gap between the end of the sear and the inside edge of the hammer is nearly 20 thousandths smaller in the two new hammers.

Common. Install the old sear on a new hammer and see how that goes. The sear is one of the few "fitted" (rather than select fit) parts.

Typically, the double action sear needs to be fitted when installing a new hammer, sounds like your problem.
Hope this helps, Steve

when removing the DB sear, be mindful of the tiny spring behind it...

Fitting Hammer and Sear in K frame
Ok, dug up a fine punch and got it done! FWIW, swapping the old sear into either of my new hammers didn't work. In both cases the gap between the end of the sear and inside facing edge of the hammer was too tight to allow the trigger spur to slip in between. ( Tighter than it was in the old spur less hammer which worked fine.) Ended up stoning the tip of a new sear until it gave me just enough gap to allow the sear to move freely by the trigger spur but not build in any slop in the trigger take up. ( See circled area of pic below to show proper interface and gap.) To do this, I ended up making a slave pin to replace the sear pin out of a carpet tack. That allowed me to stone, fit , install, test repeatedly, quickly and in small intervals. A few thousandths goes a long way in this area! The slave pin also held everything in alignment when it came time to drive the real sear pin back in for final assembly.
Stoked with the end result and even more pleased to have gotten a deeper re-education on the internal workings of a K frame. Time well spent!
( You got to understand, to us old Mechanical Engineers, this stuff is like porn! :-))
Thanks again for all your help !

I had a similar problem when tryng to "drop in" a new hammer into a model 60. SA & DA worked fine, but the trigger wouldn't return. Tried swapping hammer/trigger as a matched set, same thing. Ended up surrendering & just installing parts back into original guns.
