Not sure if this is proper location as this thread may also fit in both the 1896-1961 and also 1980-present forums.
I recently had a M625-10 barrel installed on a 1917 frame.
The -10 barrel has dove-tail front sight which I'm told is a standard size for S&W and is consistent with their gen 3 & 4 semi-auto 645, 4506, etc.
Matter of fact, the front sight currently installed is a white dot and supposedly from a semi-auto. It measures app. .250 in height.
I'm needing a taller front sight but after checking with various sight manufacturers, I'm told they don't offer an interchangable sight.
It seems most offer a 60 or 65 degree bevel base.
Does anyone know what S&W's dimensional specs are for this sight or of a sight that will work. Some (Cylinder & Slide and others) have said they can replace the sight but requires a dovetail be cut to match their bases.
I called S&W but the person I spoke with said she doesn't know their specs and didn't seem to want to find out but I have been told it's an "unnatural to this world" 70 deg. bevel.
I'd prefer a gold bead sight but am also willing to file down a sight to regulate POI and radius the contour to prevent snagging if need be. Brownells shows a factory .262 sight but that's not tall enough, IMO. They offer an aftermarket .300 but the base won't fit.
Any help or suggestions?
