Default 586 Trigger Issue

Hi Guys,

I fully disassembled my 586 to carry out a thorough cleaning as i hadnt done so in ages. However upon re-assembly i now have an issue.

When the side plate is not in place both SA and DA function perfectly, when it is put back and screwed into place the trigger will not reset. It remains stuck in the "middle" position. When given a light push it will reset correctly but not on its own.

I've disassembled it and reassembled it and still cant see anything out of place. I've even gone so far as to borrow a friends 686 and compared the internals of both with the plate removed and nothing seems wrong.

Any ideas??

Disassemble it and make sure the trigger lever is engaged into the rebound slide fully and correctly. Check for a broken rebound slide (trigger return) spring. Also make sure the post has not been loosened ans is perfectly straight. Make sure the side plate is tightened evenly and fully.

Here is a guess. Make sure the hammer block is perfectly lined up in it's proper position, and fitting in it's groove in the sideplate, and stays that way while replacing the sideplate. If not, it can get pinched and bind up the action.

I agree. That is most likely the issue. The hammer block moves up and down ,from its pin on the rebound slide, in a narrow channel in the side plate. A common binding area.

Mystery issue resolved. The pin/notch on the rebound slide has actually snapped off!!!

Thinking back, the last time i fired it before disassembly it was starting to give some issues with double action. It's due to this that i disassembled thinking it was just dirty.

Oh well, replacement part ordered from MidwayUK. Thanks to all for the input!
