Smooth Cylinder Latch
Hi:
I have a S&W Model 638 and the Wife has a Model 642. Firing with a high thumb hold the sharp checking on the thumb latch abrases the thumb. Is there a smooth thumb latch available ?
Thanks,
Jimmy

I just want to offer some help on your grip. On most revolvers especially small ones, you should never have a thumbs high grip as you would on some semi-autos. One problem you can run into is your thumbs can be burned by the gasses coming out between the cylinder and barrel. Another problem is you could stop or slow down the cylinder spin. You have also run into the other problem.
I like to grip what is called a thumb over thumb grip. Grip the gun in your strong hand and fold your thumb down. Now grip with the other hand and place that thumb over to top of the first hand. I use this grip for everything including semi-autos. You will find that this is a very strong grip.

Agree. The "thumb-over" grip is the best for J-frame size revolvers. It's what I use on my 60, 637, and 642. And after a while switching back and forth between a "standard" two handed grip and the "thumb-over" becomes natural.
