Default Milling New Front Sight for M10-8 3" HB

All,

I would like to install a gold bead sight on my 3" heavy barrel M10. The existing sight is not pinned but rather part of the barrel. I believe it measures 0.150" tall. I have asked a couple of smiths about it thus far, and they are stymied. SDM suggested that their dovetail blank (normally intended for an auto) might work but they are not sure.

The milled rear notch sight precludes mounting a FS base, i.e. Alpha Precision or Weigand--or at least that is my understanding based on POI.

So I suppose I am looking for both a description of the technique and parts, and a smith who could do the job.

Please forgive me if this is rehashing old ground; I spent a couple of hours pouring over old posts but couldn't find a solution.

Many thanks in advance,
_107driver

Look VERY carefully to see if your sight is pinned. My HB 3" 10-8 is. I missed it 'til I was cleaning it after a sonic cleaner session.
There is room (enough barrel above the bore) to cut a "keyway" like the factory pinned sight. It's a different cut than the pinned sights on barrels with a ramp. Might see if S&W will do it.
