Default Mod. 27-2 "hanging up" on trigger pull

I have a "new to me" S&W Mod. 27-2. When you pull the trigger it will sometimes "hang up" and not rotate the cylinder/drop the hammer. I read a couple of threads on this forum. Since the original extractor rod was slightly bent, I installed a new one. No change. Then I installed one (1) .002 end bushing. This really smoothed things up, but did not completely eliminate the hanging up. It still does it, although not as often. Anyone have advice. I've cleaned it up, and checked under the extractor star for debris.

From your description, its hard to know where to start as there could be more than one problem, depending on where in the cycle the hang up is. If it is early in the cycle, I would first check the cylinder stop. Holding the gun sideways, slowly cock the hammer and watch the cylinder stop below the cylinder as it retracts. Make sure it retracts enough to release the cylinder, before the hand rotates the cylinder. If it does not release soon enough the hand rotates the cylinder while the stop is still in the notch, causing it to bind. Another way to check it is to put a business card between the stop and the cylinder and cock the gun to see if turns the cylinder without issue. If this check does not find the issue, then a more detailed description of when the problem occurs will help with more suggestions. Hope this helps.

Might try opening the action(cyl), then hold the thumb latch back and cycle the action SA and DA. This may help isolate the problem.....tell you if the problem is with the cylinder and it's movement, or it's something associated with the action itself.

Thanks for all of the input. I have been out of action for a while, and have just now accessed my post. I will try these things out in the next few days and get back with results. I really appreciate the assistance.
