Bodyguard 380. Got the slide release out but slide stuck.
First time disassembly. Maybe 150-200 rounds through it, max.
So, i got the slide release pin out without a problem, but this slide will not push toward the front and off, no way, no how. It goes about 3/4" front from the rear. Clears the rearmost slide rail, but will not go any further front. I tried to "muscle it" but no dice. Wiggle back and forth - not much wiggle.
I'm not sure why it's stuck and don't want to get too aggressive with it and break something it might be hung up on. When it's as far front as possible, the trigger will pull without moving the hammer, but the hammer looks very tight against the slide, like maybe that's what it's getting hung up on. Is this even possible? I tried to pull the slide back, goes back fine and I can pull the trigger about half way (it will move the hammer then) to get the slide to clear it, but still doesn't come off.
Thoughts?

Yes mag is out...
Would it be safe to tap rear of slide with a rubber mallet or something to maybe break it loose? Is it just reallllly tight or legitamately stuck on another part?
I think once its off and lubed should be good to go? Neverhad any issues with this otherwise.

dont know if it is the same, but I have to pull the trigger, so the slide can release on down to the end and finally come off on some of my other semi's.
good luck

Pulling the trigger does nothing for me unfortunately. Doesn't move the hammer or anything else that I can see that would help it release. When the slide is back in normal position or rear of normal position, then the hammer will move with trigger, I've tried holding it semi-pulled, so the hammer is back, and sliding the slide off, but that doesn't work. However, when I push the slide front the 3/4" it will move, then it seems like the hammer is also "pushed" front (or it could just look like it) and nearly tight against the top of the slide. I realize it probably isn't tight against it, and there is some very minimal (1/16", less?) clearance between it and the actual slide, but to the naked eye looks like they are touching...

I don't have a bodyguard, but I have a Kahr that is a little fussy about taking the slide off, you have to be pushing forward on the slide with a moderate amount of force then pull the trigger. Push too hard, no go, push too soft, no go, pull the trigger then push no go, gotta be just right. It's like Goldilocks when it comes to field stripping.....not sure if this technique can apply to yours but sounds like it wouldnt hurt to try??

BG380 slide return problem
Yes, it's easy to encounter your problem. When you have the slide re-inserted, and pulled back to slide lock position, make sure you pull the barrel forward as far as it will go. You might have to wiggle it to make sure it moves all the way forward. Then release the slide and it should return to normal position.

Peter - Maybe I am misunderstanding your post, or you may be misunderstanding mine. I can not even get the slide off to begin with, so there is no "re-inserting" the slide yet. This isn't during re-assembly, this is during disassembly. Can't get disassembled past this point:
This is where is gets stuck and no matter how much muscle, wiggling, tapping with rubber mallet, etc. the slide will not go further forward than this. I can easily reassemble the gun from here, pushing back the slide, putting the pin in, etc. but that I need to be able to disassemble this gun eventually so I can't really give up!
Here is what I mean about it appearing the slide is either getting stuck on (or it at least appears very, very close to being stuck on) the hammer. The problem is the trigger does not operate the trigger at this point. It pulls freely. If I put the slide back to normal position, I can pull the trigger, which puts the hammer back, but then whenever I push the slide forward, it takes the hammer "with it" and I end up in the position of this photo each time.
Any other thoughts before I have to send this back to Smith or trade it on something else (P238, LC9). Really don't want to trade it b/c it feels really good in the hands and I like it for deep concealed carry needs. Though most of the time I will carry some form of 3-4" 1911 or a small frame Smith revolver (model 60 pro series mostly), I do carry this one relatively frequently.

BG380 slide return problem
Whoooboy. I see now what you mean. If after you reset to normal, I assume it will shoot and work fine. Your last picture shows the same hammer clearance on slide removal as mine and you describe trigger/hammer operation or no operation the same as mine works. Unless someone else can give conclusive information on this forum, I'd first take it to the gun shop where you bought it, or call them, on the chance they've encountered this in any others sold. They might be able to fiddle before you give up and mail it of to S&W. My only complaint, short of the long trigger pull that Galloway's coming kit will reportedly improve, is a very sensitive mag release which encourages mag drops on my piece. Good luck.

Slide on Bodyguard won't go forward
This is to REDROCKIN7. I have the same exact problem with my Bodyguard as you do, and I haven't even shot it yet. The slide will go back but I can't get it to come off. It won't even go as far forward as yours did. Have you found out how to fix it or did you just send it to S&W?
