Rear sight leaf screw too long.Need to re-sight in after trimming and reinstalling?
My sight leaf screw on my new Mountain gun was a hair too long and stood slightly proud of the frame. I was getting slight kisses of the cylinder somehow during firing. I removed the screw and stoned it flush with the frame and reinstalled it. Does the gun need to be re-sighted in ? I would not think so, but am wondering if any of you have had wandering zero after tightening or replacing the front leaf rear sight screw? Thanks.

If you mean the screw that holds the sight on the frame at the front and not the elevation screw at the rear, this should not have any effect.
Only if you removed the sight from the frame and allowed the windage screw nut to turn would the sighting change.

If it's the (rear) elevation screw, and you did not return the rear sight height to the exact same measurement, then yes, you will probably have to readjust the rear sight. My early 629 MG (MR) rear screw is positioned far enough back that it's actually behind the frame window, and I don't have one of the new-fangled versions to compare to it, so my information may not be accurate.

This was the case. It was the screw that holds the leaf on at the front. Thanks.

Absolutely! Even the most mean-spirited of wives would have to concede that a few hours at the range are critically needed. You can not take the safety of your home and loved ones for granted.
