Noticed recently that my Model 10-8 hammer mount firing pin, is NOT spring tensioned. Out of curiosity, checked every other S&W in the safe, & they all have spring tensioned HMFP's.
So, is this an issue that needs to get fixed - before it gets worse (broken FP maybe?), or is it a normal mod 10 thing?
Knowledgeable input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've owned quite a few S&W revolvers over the years, & it seems to me more have not had the spring you refer to, than have had it. I never had a problem with any of 'em, FWIW.
As I recall, N-frames have had spring loaded firing pins. The k-frames I have the firing pins just flop around in the hammer. I don't have any recent manufacture k-frames.
It's my understanding that the K frame firing pins are spring tensioned in the magnum calibers and not sprung in the non magnums. I checked a few and this is the case with my couple of Ks.
