Have any of you guys used the custom gunsmith company named Alpha Precision ? I would like to have some opinions of the work, if possible. Thanks

Can't offer an opinion of his work, but the pistolsmith's name is Jim Stroh. I have heard good things about him.

Thanks guys. I have access to a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt, and I want a conversion cylinder to .45 acp, which, since I do not reload is a much more available/less costly round.
.Perhaps Ruger will sell an extra cylinder to an individual, and if so that would be plan "A". ...Since I doubt they will, I was thinking ahead to an alternative way of getting a .45 acp cylinder.

I have a vaquero in 45 colt and have to reload for it because there are none available hear. Itcomes to about 7 cents a shot. most 45 colt loads are slow cowboy loads any way. Ruger also will not sell a cylinder. You may be able to send it to ruger and have it fitted with 45 acp cyl. Also people say the vaquero wont handle real high pressure loads, 45 colt is 14000 max, but 45 acp is 20000 or so cant remember. If it can handle 45 acp and colt loads safe to think it would handle 20000 psi. Just my opinion.

JIM STROH of Alpha Precision is one of the grand old men of custom work. He has been in business for many years and his work is first rate. While I do my own armorer work, I've long since gotten rid of my machinery. I had him do a barrel/cylinder gap reset for me on a 629 a few years ago and it was excellent. He is way behind and you have to wait in line to get him to work on your weapons. But for revolver work there are few better in my humble opinion.

I have a Ruger GP 100 .357 Magnum with invoices for $800 worth of work done by Jim Stroh for its previous owner in 2003. It is fabulous! Go to his Alpha Precision web site to learn all about him; in a nutshell, he has a 2,500 square foot one-man shop in Comer, GA.

You might try Ruger. They are very reasonable in cost and may fit an ACP cylinder if you send them the gun. You can send it directly to them and they can return it to you.

Jim does outstanding work to the finest detail. Certainly in the top three (IMO) of handgunsmith's in the US. Here is a former M29-2 that I shipped to him with an 8 3/8" 45 Colt barrel. Dead nuts tight cylinder in every way (yoke locked with double detent balls), line bored with a tight 45 Colt rechamber. Polish and re-blue as well. Taylor throated and dead nutz accurate. One I would really like to run in a Ransom rest.
Before.
After.
His screw on front sight base with quick interchange blades.
I had him lean the hammer and trigger then send them to Turnbull for case color.

Mr. Stroh refurbished a Model 1950 Target for me a few years back. The work was superb. It is a tack driver.
The converted 29 in the post above is beautiful. Superb example of his work.
