Default Inverted muzzle crown vs traditional muzzle crown

Please share with me your opinions and expertise on the differences between the two and if one is better than the other. Thanks in advance.

A recessed crown might be more protected from damage, though imho its mostly a cosmetic detail This one is interesting

The only reason for a recessed crown is to protect it. This is most often seen in match grade guns where even the smallest bit of variance is taken into consideration. The reason it isn't done on more factory guns is it doesn't make that much difference in most handguns. Bench rest and 600 yard match rifles is a different consideration.

Muzzles are crowned to make it more difficult for the owners to ding the ends of the rifling. The traditional crown does this well.

Match type crowns prioritize an even exit surface that evenly distributes the powder gasses and presents minimal chance for bullet influence. You cannot clean this type of crown from the muzzle and it's comparitively easy to damage, with bad effects on accuracy.

As noted above, most of us wobble enough on our own, the type of crown make little difference.

If factory crown is clean(no nicks, serious scraches) I see no difference. I went with the inverted crown on my 3" mod.65 just for the uber-cool custom look.
