Default Possible to rebuild a King cockeyed hammer?

I had to replace the hammer and trigger on my Model 1955. It had a dangerous problem with push off. I would like to know is it possible to rebuild the sear contacts so I could keep the original King set ? The original gun was set up as a San Francisco Police Revolver Club gun so I would like to keep it intact as I first acquired it. Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!
Any one with a N frame King set for sale please contact me.

Did you try replacing just the trigger? If the old hammer's cocking notch is still intact, it may not need to be replaced. In my limited experience, the trigger is the first to go. A worn or broken hammer is beyond my smithing skills.

I would say it can be done. With the parts being scarce and the fact that it would keep the pistol back to its former glory the right smith with the right tools and skills can pull it off. On that its probably not going to be cheap as I can already see welding, case hardening, and re-fitting the parts. Ive been messing with making Hammers styled after the Kings by TIG welding them up. The most important thing to remember is by trying to repair them you can do no harm as they are already as you say have problems. Finding a good smith to do the job is the thing you need to find.

A good smith may also be able to anneal the hammer out and then peen/stretch the area to gain material to then refit and then case harden. you can also mill out the area and solder a new piece of hardened steel in and re fit. If i was to work on it this is how i would start, but with out seeing and looking at parts their is a lot of unknown. Just find a good smith and you should have a good chance of success.

Default King cockeyed hammer rebuild

Thank you for the replies. Does anyone know of a Smith who might be up for such a job? I realize that the cost would not be cheap. I am not aware of any good S&W smiths in the Bay Area since Tabor's closed. Would anyone know of any King cockeyed hammer and trigger sets for sell? I have had my gun for over 40 years and now that I'm retired I have more time for my hobbies.
Thanks again, Craig

Cant help you there, from what everyone tells me here is not a lot of S&W restoration guys around. I find my self coming to the realization of specializing in S&W restoration, not that i have one problem with that. Im sure someone will chime in with some names. I know a lot of good action guy, custom pistol guys your need fall along a good old repair guy who wont hack it up and get in and out without leaving a trace.

I wish you all the luck, i love the old D.W. King stuff. here is my current take on a project with his influence.

work in progress, should have it finished up and case hardened by next semester

You could have the contact surfaces micro welded and re-machined a bit oversized so you could have a smith hand fit them if desired. You could also have the contact surfaces hard chromed (built up) and re-machined. Either of these 2 methods done properly will give you decades of service and you would not know any difference.

As rck281 posted; get in touch with David Chicoine. I understand that he welds and recuts the sear and will have it re-case colored if you want.
