Hammer replacement on Model 37?
I know this has been brought up before but wondering if someone could answer a question. I bought a hammer off of e-bay and am going to install it in my model 37. The original hammer is bobbed. I read on here that you might have to use the original sear. It looks like the sear is installed on the hammer with a pin, does that mean you have to remove the pin and replace sear with original? I heard where the sears some time's were fitted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is that a 37-2….?
You might want to check before altering.
In 2005, there was a special run of 37-2's (this was after the 37-3 with the magnum frame came out) that was made for a small special order that came from the factory with bobbed hammers and double action only.
They are referenced in the Standard Catalog of Smith & wesson on page 211.

In answer to your question the sear is held in with the small pin, but beware there is also a coil spring behind the sear that keeps it pushed out. So when removing the pin, make sure to be able to trap the sear and spring when it shoots out.

On a J frame you may very well be able to drop in the hammer without sear replacement.

Hi:
Did the hammer from "E-bay" come complete with sear and sear spring?
If it did, you might consider trying the replacement hammer before changing the sear.
Sometimes you get lucky.

Great !
Normally these "Sellers" strip a part and then sell each and every part item to max their profit.

You can try it first as is, but if you have to swap out the sear it's a 5 minute job and not a big deal. You could also fit the new one if you know how.
Like Mr. Flintsghost said; watch for the spring.......
