Default j frame problem

Ok took my model 40 apart and did a trigger job with a wolfe spring kit and some minor stoning. things I have done before and it ended up with a sweet trigger. Also took the cylinder apart to clean and now It won't close back into the frame. seems to be crowding too close to the forcing cone.
Any advice would be appreciated

yp - sounds like you might have tightened the sideplate/yoke screw before you fully pushed the yoke/cylinder assembly completely into frame.
Loosen that screw and then push the assembly in further and retighten.

Unless you picked up the wrong cylinder or yoke off the table of parts (ask me how I know) from more than one gun you had apart at the time....if it came out, it ought to go back in. Look for what VM said. If you're putting the same parts back in the same gun....something is blocking the yoke. Shove it all way home fully open and install the screw and see if it closes. The center-pin will push it forward and the cylinder will scrape the forcing cone if the yoke retention screw is not screwed-in before you close it... unless you apply some pressure to the front of the yoke to push the center-pin in against the recoil shield.

put the side plate screw in before closing the cylinder and it closed. had to do a minor tweek on the tightness of ejector rod but it's working good now. Thanks for the advice. Have never had to put the screw in before closing in the past. Learned something new today. Thanks again

Not being a SA...I promise, but one thing you just said could lead to another problem. You said you "tweeked" the ejector rod. That rod should be TIGHT before you put the assembly in. The one thing you don't want to do is put it back together with a loose rod, or one that might work loose in the gun. If the ejector rod backs out....that will lock-up the gun....then you have a whole 'nuther problem to overcome.

I am not one for playing Hercules when installing an ejector rod, but it does need to be TIGHT. If all you can use is some vice-grips and a piece of leather....that will work. Just do it in an area of the rod close to the cylinder not out on the knurled section. I think it's always good practice to check the rod before you shoot the gun and then when you put it away.

I'm with you there
I bought a special purpose vice grip from "gunsmither tools" for the s&w ejector rod. Check em out there pretty cool. They also have a rebound slide tool that works well. Thanks again for good advice
