Default Cleaning Supplies

Picking up my Shield 9mm on Tuesday and need to pickup some cleaning supplies as I can't find my kit I used to own.

Would this be a good start?

Hoppe's Boresnake Viper
Gunzilla
Silicone cloth
Nylon brushes

Cleaning rod? patches? Hopps #9? CLP? old toothbrush?

I don't know about the Shield, but I use a bit of grease on my 3d Gens.

I always like a good solid one piece stainless steel rod. For removing the copper jacketing, you will need a good copper removing solvent. Quality cotton patches. I use a plated brass jag so the patches don't show false positive.

A good cleaning mat to work on the pistol on.

Just for grins before buying one, Google "Stuck Bore Snake".

I saw one of those post (on another forum) in which a guy was recounting how he got a bore shake stuck in his AR-15 and wanted to know if it was okay to "SHOOT IT OUT".

Makes you just want to say "Yes!" and get him out of the gene pool right away. Hoo boy.

Dewey Stainless Rod is about the best I can suggest. Bore Snakes are for a quick "Field Cleaning" and do not really thoroughly clean a firearm - at least IMHO.

Brownell's Branded Bronze Bore Brushes are excellent - better than the Hoppes. Outers, etc. they sell in the Discount Stores. Nylon brushes simply won't get the gun clean.

Solvents and oils - - - well you've really opened up a can of worms there. There are plenty of threads on this Forum to read regarding that.

Patches - 100% cotton is what I would reco. Again, Brownells Brand is about the best I have found.
