Hammer and Trigger Travel in Single Action M64
Ladies and Gentlemen,
After a year of waiting and not a little expense, I just received back my M64 from a well known gunsmith who performed an action job and hammer bob. It shoots great, is nice and tight, passes all the recommended checks listed in a common thread on this forum, but when I carefully--and perhaps inexplicably--cock the bobbed hammer for a single action trigger check, there is take-up, and I can watch the hammer travel nearly 1/8" before it falls. I have never seen or felt any S&W SA like this--the others are varying degrees of glass rods breaking. I don't envision shooting this piece single action much if ever, but this seems odd to me. Your thoughts?
Many thanks,
_107

Something is very wrong.
The hammer should not creep froward like that.
I suggest you get back with the gunsmith ASAP and make arrangements to send it back.
Since you already paid for the work, he should pay for shipping it back, and you should go to the front of the line.

Just to clarify, during single action pull, the hammer moves back 1/8", much like an abbreviated double action pull.
Yah, the shipping is what has me hesitating. Pretty pricey, but I'd like it looked at if the smith would pick up the tab.
Thank you.

Perhaps he converted it to DAO.....can you visually check/inspect the hammer condition to see if the SA cocking notch is still intact?
