Default Side plate fit

How difficult is it to have a side plate fit to a M&P? I have a Navy marked Victory that has had its side plate changed out. The one on it now hangs over the bottom near the trigger. It also has a larger line around it like it was buffed out. Is it possible to have this side plate fit to this frame and do you know of a gunsmith that can do it?

If the Side Plate on now is overhanging on the bottom and too large in that area, it might be able to be fit to you satisfaction, however you did state that the line between the Plate and the Frame is already too large which means that the SP is already too small in that area - can't stretch it.

I don't know of any GS's that specifically do that work, so you might want to start with a call to the S&W Custom Shop and ask them. If they will not do it there, you can at least ask them for some recommendations. You could also try Doug Turnbull (NY I think), Ron's Gun Shop, Cylinder & Slide or Mid West Gunworks.

Good luck,

Thanks for the response. I doubt that S&W will work on it. They won't work on pre model guns. I bought a side plate for a pre-victory without the safety cut. I believe that with this early serial number that when they went to the new safety instead of modifying the original, they put on a new one and had it finished. There are no fitting numbers on the inside. I am going to see if the older side plate is a better fit and if it is refinish it to the Navy's color.
You have to remember that it was war time and they didn't care about what looks right, if it fiton the gun, they used it.
