Default Correct screwdrive size needed for Model 15

Hi Guys,

I need some help figuring out the correct screwdriver size for my model S&W Model 15-3 with 1 7/8" barrel. I'm trying to remove the front sight assembly and need to remove the small screw on the top of the barrel above the forcing cone.

This seems to be a narrower slot thank my other Smith's have. I have the Forster Gunsmith set of 8 screwdrivers and usually the smallest one will work for most small screws. It's too thick to fit in the groove.

Thanks for your help.
Dave

Update...I have the same issue with a pre model 14. I see Brownells sells individual Magna-Tip bits. If anyone could suggest a few sizes to try that would save me a lot of dough instead of buying an entire massive set. Unfortunately I don't have a grinder or drill press (MAGNA-TIP BIT SHAPING STONE) to grind my own...
Thanks a lot,
Dave

I bought the 4 bit screwdriver set that is specific for S&W from Brownell's several years ago. The bits fit in the top of the handle. The bit I use for the small rear sight screw is 120-1.

As much as Brownell's and others sell "Smith & Wesson Dedicated Screwdriver sets" they will NOT fit ALL S&W's properly. Over the years Smith has used different screw vendors and the slot sizes have varied. In the good old days they were thinner than the ones they are currently shipping.

As I have suggested here a bunch of times, get a good set from Brownell's and get their Screwdriver grinding stone to grind or modify them as needed. There is no set that is perfect for all guns - NONE!

I started years ago making custom fit screwdrivers and have continued 'till this day. When I break a screwdriver I save it to customize into a smaller one when needed.

Thanks guys. I ordered the S&W set from Brownells. If that doesn't work I also got the MagnaTip grinding stone to roll my own.
I appreciate the advice,
Dave
