Default White outline Rear sight

Hey Everyone,

I have a 625JM and the rear sight notch is not deep enough for my dawson precision front sight to fit into when acquiring a sight picture. The 625JM comes with a .126 tall blade which has an extremely small notch of only .059" deep. On my 686-4 it comes with a .160" tall rear blade and a .079" deep notch. S&W sells a .146 tall rear blade but will not give me the measurement of the depth of the notch. Does anyone here have a .146 tall rear sight and if so, could you measure the depth of the notch for me please.

I do not want to order the .146" rear blade if the depth of the notch is not .079 like the .160" tall rear blade.

Thank for your help guys.

The .146 rear has a shallower notch. The .160 has the deepest.
Warren Moore, Protocall Design, makes .100 wide, .040" FO front sight blades for the S&W revolvers that give a really nice sight picture when used with the .160 rear blade. The FO "floats" in the rear notch just right. .160 rear, .300 front is the usual combination on a 625.

Tomcat,

Thanks for your help. I actually took the .160 off my 686 and put it on my 625 last week. Infortunetly, I have a Dawson PRecision .250 tall front and I could not zero the gun, the rear sight was topped out and rounds still hitting 4" high at 15 yards. I have the .300 tall front sight on order right now so that sounds like it will fix the problem.

I don't like the .126 rear sight blade for the S&W, the notch is to shallow to get any front sight into.

I think ill order a new .160 and put it back on my 686.

Thanks.
