625-3 45ACP to 45Colt Conversion
What will I need to track down for parts besides a re-bored 629 unfluted Cylinder w/ guts? It is a 3" version that has the endurance pkg and short ejector rod.
THANKS!
Stump

Depending on what barrel is on the 625 you could need an e4jector, center pin and spring.
Depending on the stop notches on the cylinder you might need a new bolt.
Depending on how worn the donor revolver is, you could need a new hand for proper fitting.

The cylinder doesn't need to be unfluted. You will need to have the barrel at forcing cone cut back and the cone recut to get clearance. Your also going tto have to clearance the lug that keeps the cylinder from moving back when ejecting. If you run the same barrel I think you will need the same ejector. If you run the 45ACP ejector and star in the reamed 44 mag cylinder there is less machining if you want it to fire both 45ACP and 45 Colt. I have one I made from a 629 reaming cylinder and replacing with a reworked ACP barrel. Also have converted a model 25-2 using original ACP barrel and 44 mag cylinder.

Cylinder & Slide in Nebraska had .45Colt cylinders for 625s for sale. I would try them and save the ream jod.

Thanks Guys,
Called C&S, but the 625 cylinders were sold out. Jack Huntington is going to do the work and has a 629 cylinder on hand and is holding it for me.
I picked up the gun yesterday and hopefully will have it out to Jack in about a week. He's moving his shop to Nevada, so there may be a slight delay in the project, but it shouldn't be a big delay according to jack.
I appreciate all the input and help!
Mike

New member: If I understand briefly,to shoot .45acp in my 25-5, it is a matter of counter boring the back of the cylinder to accept the half or full moon clips? And that will allow me to still shoot the .45 colt?
Is this something I should farm out to S&W custom shop or is a good reputable gunsmith capable?
Last question-Did Smith make a cylinder that accepts both rounds as a factory item, perhaps something I might find out in the market, like a gun show or a really good gunshop? Thanks

There are several companies that can convert a .45 Colt revolver to also fire .45ACP in full moonclips only, not half moons.
No, S&W did not sell a .45 ACP/.45 Colt revolver that only used one cylinder.
