My S+W Model 28 trigger is stuck
I have a S+W Model 28-2 that does not allow me to pull the trigger double action. It locks the trigger in the forward position unless I pull the hammer back then it releases the hammer single action when the trigger is pulled. Does anyone know what causes this locking and what is the fix?
TIA

Did it suddenly start doing it or did you buy it like that?

Sounds like the spring on the double action sear is broken or stuck inward due to junk accumilation. Time to remove the side plate and go inside.

When you pull the hammer back it takes pressure off the rebound slide and allows the weak rebound slide spring to push the trigger forward (recover) so it properly engages the cylinder stop. Replace the rebound slide spring. Someone probably shortened the factory spring, or installed a too light spring trying to reduce trigger pull.
Search the "Gunsmithing" sub-forum, you will find numerous posts fully explaining what is happening.

I saw one instance where the sideplate screws were loose, which allowed the cylinder stop to have lateral play, binding the action.
Another thing to consider, Steve

The poster said that the trigger is stuck in the FORWARD position, not the rear, so the rebound slide is not the problem. I asked him whether it happened suddenly or if he got it that way because it sounds like someone replaced the hammer, trigger, or both and didn't know how to properly fit them. That could produce precisely the problem he describes.

sandspur6,
Could you give me the courtesy of:
1) Read my sig. line!
2) Read the 2 posts I linked to.
You obviously have not read them.
If you do not understand what I am saying in these three posts it is simply because you do not under the machanics of the S&W double-action lockwork!

cleaning
The gun was taken apart and cleaned and lube. That did not solve the issue. It seemed like it worked for a little bit then went back to the stuck trigger again.

Did you cycle the action with the side plate off and see what is going on?

Cycled it with the side plate off and it didn't work. My gunsmith believes it could be the hand that rotates the cylinder. Does anyone know where I can but a another one? Any help would be appreciated.
