Launched a spring - 1st time
Unfortunately, I managed to launch and lose the sear spring for a 1980s N frame hammer. Boy, is it tiny! I checked Numrich, Brownells, and Midway (in that order) but all are out of stock. Can anybody help?
Yes, lesson learned about capturing flying parts. This was the first time - swear.

Jeez, I must have gotten Gunpartscorps last one... it arrived Saturday. I needed a replacement because I did exactly the same thing.

I just checked Gunpartscorp.com online listing, and they show the sear spring for a 1917 (an N frame) part number 358540B, available for $2.35. This might work.

You're supposed to keep an eye on those springs when they launch.
Its around here somewhere...

Thanks for all the suggestions on sources - and to Yorkie Man for the offer. I'll check the couple of outlets I neglected on the first round and see if I can come up with one for sale. I'm not sure how W.E.G. got that picture of me searching my shop Also, I was aware of the plastic bag strategy, but being my cocky self figured I was special and didn't need it. Live and learn

The rule is: the spring will go to the dirtiest, nastiest, messiest, corner of the garage...
Use to have S&W parts dept. on speed dial.. They would answer the phone,, ' That you again, Dan ?' ...
And I tried the plastic bag routine,, it would just shoot out the opening of the bag toward the messiest corner of the garage.

In every case the offending part is referred to as the 'jeeziz' spring.
Occaisionally, a pin or detent ball will be launched simultaneously.
I have lost tiny parts. Everyone has. I have also ( believe it or not) found the little buggers eevery time. Usually after the replacemnt part has been installed and the gun back in working order.......
I am a believer in the plastic bag maneuver nowadays, and I have a big magnet.....

Jeezis was the precise word I used. If this is a right of npassage then I passed. Also resolved to move everything in the shop and sweep with a hand broom. This is gonna take awhile

Go to the local dry cleaners and get a clear bag that they put over your laundry. They are big and easy to see through and work under.......

I was taking apart a Remington 7400 for the first time once and ended up with a red mark across my chest like the one in the picture, ouch. Springs don't have to fly out to go missing. I have lost two sets of ejector springs from my 3rd gen pistols and I don't have anymore to spare.

My claim to fame is in one of my normal insane moments I took a S&W revolver apart in a HAY BARN! Believe it or not my wife (Penny) found the lost spring.
