Default model 10 finish compromised, suggestions?

Recently, I purchased a model 10-8 for a fair price. The other day I pulled it out of the safe to just handle it a bit more and noticed some splotches on one side off frame. It looks like overspray from something or another.

I'm not sure if it was something I done or if it was like that when I bought it. Either way that does not matter. It is only noticeable in good light, near a window or outside.

Can some of you recommend a possible remedy short of a refinish?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Is it blue or nickel? Either way you can use a product called Flitz. Buy the stuff in the silver tube. Use a soft cloth and slowly buff out the stain. Don't use a lot of pressure and buff with a clean soft cloth when done. It may take a while to get the desired results. After you are done use a good wax such as Renaissance wax. This will protect the finish from this happening again.
Can you post a photo so we can tell if this will work?

It has the blued finish, I will try and photograph it when I return home. And thanks for the Flitz suggestion.

Be careful with Flitz ( an excellent product) as it can remove blue if you are not careful. Bob

Arrangements were made to have the model 10 refinished locally. On the way to drop it off I took it to a local gun shop to get their opinion. After they inspected it concluded the bluing was flaking off, or was corroded at some point and had been polished to its current state.

The shop recommended just shoot the thing and not to worry over the finish. Next thing, the owner asked me if I wanted to sell it. I don't, and no serious offer was made.

The attached photo does not really show imperfections as seen with the naked eye.

Default Model 10

I agree with the shop shoot it as it is a great reliable model, I think it looks great. Nice selection of grips also. I call the wear and the stains -Patina.

Shop gave good advice. If you didn't pay for the refinish, head on over to lunch and take that Model 10 back to the house. It is a "utility gun." Most guns do not benefit from a refinish, in the long run. Joe

I have a Combat Masterpiece that was a duty gun and a Victory Officer's Model that has been parkerized (yikes, I know, but it is a clean job). Those two are shooters. Others like my 27-2 5" and a 586 6" are um, 90%+ and I don 't take them to the range much.
Your 10-8 is a good revolver and you will enjoy shooting it. Soon the blemishes will be part of the story.

I had a Model Ten issued to me many years ago that had obviously been carried a lot and shot some, the finish was horrid and since it wasn't my gun I didn't worry about what it looked like. I had it for 5 years, put a hair under 70,000 rounds through it (bowling pin shooting addiction) and when the company upgraded to Model 64's I turned it back in. I still miss it.

I understand the pride-of-ownership thing, but what you have is an excellent shooter-grade gun, I'd shoot it, clean it and shoot it some more. You'll never get the money back that refinish would cost, and if it ain't broke, why fix it? Enjoy it for what it is.

I sold a guy my old Pre-Model 10 that the finish was very worn on. I did get to shoot it a lot but he wanted it because he owns a refinishing shop and wanted to be able to show his customers what he could do. He sent me pictures of it. It does look amazing but, really has not increased the value any. LOL, I never should have sold that one.
