Default 44 mag vs 44 spec cylinder

Would anyone here have the cylinder lengths for a smith model 29 44 mag compared to a model 24 44 special for an N frame. I'm trying to hitch a 29 cylinder and barrel to a HD frame. Would appreciate any information or possibly the source of a schematic showing lengths. Do appreciate on the front end. RS

Default 29 cylinder length

My 29-2 has a cylinder length of 1.745". Sorry, can't help you with the M24 length. Best of luck with your project.

44 magnum cylinders are recessed where 44 special cylinders are not until the non recessed 29-3 (and up)
those cylinders are shorter at the rear but still have the same headspace between the cartridge and the recoil shield.

N frame windows should all be the same length but the longer Magnum cylinder is offset by a shorter forcing cone on the magnum barrel , sounds like you would be OK as long as your mating a 29 barrel to a 29 cylinder although not sure HD frames are made to take the same pressures as the Magnum frames so should check into this before proceeding ?

On a side note the 29 barrel has a wide raised rib that may not cosmetically mate to either a tapered barrel frame or a fixed site frame.
